Welcome to Saint Patrick’s Catholic Voluntary Academy Saint Patrick’s Catholic school, historically, was opened on 28th August 1927. The parishioners helped raise the money to build a Catholic school. There were 3 members of staff at the time; the headteacher, Mrs Angland; Miss B Ennis and Mr W Hewson. The log book states: ‘Saint Patrick’s school was opened on this date. The event was an auspicious one.’ 86 years later, we continue the journey of this Catholic school as an academy, a school of learning where children are enthusiastic; enjoy attending school; are excited about challenge and where they want to ‘reach for the stars’, because they can! Saint Patrick’s community, governors, staff, parents and parishioners have collaborated with the local authority, representatives and the diocese to establish a vision to become an academy linked to the Umbrella Trust of All Saints high school. We have worked closely with Saint Joseph’s; in Handsworth who officially became an academy with Saint Patrick’s on Friday 1st March. The governors and staff will work collaboratively to create a curriculum that will be unique and engaging all children, visionary and utilising members of the community as active participants in the future success of the school. The academy is immersed in 23 languages and rich in a world of culture and inclusion. The governors lead an academy that is autonomous and receives finances direct from government; we are planning community projects in art; music and developing as an eco friendly school. We have been fortunate enough to have received a grant of £8000 to develop the allotment and we hope to bid for an eco friendly classroom in the future. The strength of the collaboration will bring financial benefits to all schools within the Trust and a level of depth in the curriculum that will have an impact on raising standards. We will continue to work alongside the local schools, because all schools should want the very best for all children in the area they reside in
